If you click ‘Words’, you will also see the amount of characters, paragraphs, lines, … that the selected sentence or paragraph has. The word count of the selected text is now displayed in the status bar. To view how many words and characters there are in a specific sentence or a paragraph, select that sentence or paragraph. Deselect ‘Include textboxes, footnotes and endnotes’ to get a clear overview and to make sure that long footnotes and other document extras don’t distort the true count of the words and characters in your document itself. You will be able to see how many characters without spaces there are in your document, how many characters with spaces, how many paragraphs, how many lines, and how many pages (but this was like the word count already visible in the statusbar). To get more specific information such as the amount of characters, with and without spaces, click ‘Words’ in the statusbar. Figure 5.As stated, you can simply find the word count of your document in the statusbar at the bottom left of your Word document. Uncheck “Include textboxes, footnotes and endnotes” if you want to exclude everything in those sections from the word count. You can also find out your words per minute using WPM counter. The word counter and character counter gives accurate word count results and count appears as you type. The number of lines in your document will be affected by your font size (i.e., the bigger the font, the more lines you will have.) The free word counter, character counter lets you easily count words and characters in a paragraph or block of text. Note that the lines statistic in the Word Count dialog box represents the number of individual lines with letters or numbers in them, not the number of sentences. The Word Count dialog box shows the number of pages, words, characters with and without spaces, paragraphs, and lines in your document. To open the Word Count dialog box, select the word count in the status bar or press Ctrl + Shift + G on your keyboard.
